1955

Original issue 1953-1955 Corvette promos were manufactured by PMC (Product Miniature Company, Inc.). The late production cars had either chrome plated or light gray plastic wheels/hubcaps. Promo collectors typically classify these cars as 1955s. The plastic body and interior was molded as one piece with separate tail lights. Nearly all 1955s were white with a red painted interior. These cars had a windshield and 2 spoke steering wheel made of clear plastic. The grille and headlights were painted silver and there should be a "Corvette" decal on the nose. The 1955s should have red paint on the tail lights. The chrome plated or light gray plastic wheels/hubcaps had a circular ridge with a dull point in the center. All 1955s came with inner and outer wide whitewall tires. These "whitewall" tires were actually solid white tires with the tread area painted black. The chassis was metal with a friction motor on the front axle and was attached to the body with 4 straight head screws. PMC used chassis screws with 2 different finishes from 1953-1955. Most 1955s came with unfinished (natural steel) screws. Some cars came with screws that had a dull greenish yellow finish. Either finish is correct.

Boxes: The 1955 boxes had a rectangular cellophane window and were covered with red, yellow and black artwork. They were nearly identical to 1954 (non-kit) boxes, except they had "72X Chev. Corvette" stamped on the end and some of the text on the back of the box was changed. These boxes came with a cardboard tray inside to keep the car properly positioned.
