1963Original issue 1963 Corvette promos were manufactured by AMT (Aluminum Model Toys, Inc.). 1963 was the first year of what became known as the "C2" generation. Therefore, the promos were completely different than all the previous years. The original issue 1963 Corvette promos were only made in "Split Window" coupes (all the previous years were convertibles). The body was molded as one piece of plastic and unique to 1963. The seats were detailed with fine vertical pleats. The interior tub, seats, dash and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These interior parts were glued together to make the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windows were inserted underneath the body over 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windows in place. The bodies were molded in red, white or dark blue plastic. None of the white bodies were painted. All of the dark blue bodies were painted "Daytona Blue Metallic". The red bodies were either painted "Riverside Red" or left unpainted. The promos had chrome rear bumpers, front bumper/grille, hubcaps, rear license plate, tail light bezels and exhaust tips. The front grille was detailed with horizontal bars (this style grille was used from 1963 to 1965). The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The rear license plate read "1963". The promos came with spinner style hubcaps that were unique to 1963. The tires had narrow whitewalls (1962 to 1967 and 1969 Corvette promos had the same style tire). Unlike the earlier years, none of the 1963s had a friction motor. The chassis was attached to the body with glue at the rear. Boxes: Most 1963 Corvette promos were packaged in boxes printed with a “graph paper” design. This printing was typically either red or black (although an original box with light blue printing also exists). In rare cases, "Riverside Red" 1963 Corvette promos have been found in plain white boxes. The stamping on the end of an original plain white box will be identical to the more common printed boxes. The 1963 boxes were stamped with the body color, sometimes the interior color (only if it contrasted the body) and "CORVETTE", "CORVETTE SEDAN" or "CORVETTE HARDTOP". Some 1963 Corvette boxes were incorrectly stamped with the full line Chevrolet color "PALOMAR RED". Original Issue Dealer Promos
