1964

Original 1964 Corvette promos were manufactured by AMT (Aluminum Model Toys, Inc.). This was the first year that original issue Corvette promos were made in 2 different body styles (Coupes and Convertibles). The bodies were molded as one piece of plastic and were unique to 1964. The notable body and interior changes from the 1963s include: coupe bodies no longer had the split rear window, the vents on the sail panel were redesigned, the rectangular grills in the hood were removed and the interior center console was redesigned. The seats were again detailed with fine vertical pleats. The interior tubs for the coupes and convertibles were slightly different; the convertible door panels were slightly longer and the coupes had small a post on top of each rear inner fender well in the cargo area. The interior tub, seats, dash and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These interior parts were glued together to make the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windows were inserted underneath the body over 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windows in place. The coupe bodies were molded in either gray or dark blue plastic. The dark blue bodies were painted "Daytona Blue Metallic". The gray bodies were painted "Satin Silver Metallic". The convertible bodies were molded in either red or black plastic and not painted. The promos had chrome rear bumpers, front bumper/grille, hubcaps, rear license plate, tail light bezels and exhaust tips. The front grille was detailed with horizontal bars (this style grille was used from 1963 to 1965). The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The rear license plate read "1964". The promos came with spinner style hubcaps that were unique to 1964. The tires had narrow whitewalls (1962 to 1967 and 1969 Corvette promos had the same style tire). The chassis was the same as 1963 and was attached to the body with glue at the rear.

Boxes: The 1964 Corvette promos were packaged in white boxes with a wide stripe running the length of the box. This wide stripe was almost always Green. The boxes were stamped with the body color, interior color (if it contrasted the body) and either "CORVETTE CONV." or "CORVETTE HARDTOP".

Note: Rumors persist that some black 1964 convertibles were factory assembled with gray interiors. We've been unable to find a legitimate example of this combination and doubt that any were produced by AMT.

Note: There were also a few Silver 1964 Corvette Convertible promos made. These cars were made exclusively for the 1963 trophies. They're located in the "Trophies" section of this website.
