1997

The 1997 Corvette promos were manufactured by AMT-Ertl. 1997 was the first year of the "C5" generation. Therefore, the promos were completely different than all the previous years. There were only coupes made in 1997. The bodies were molded in either red or white plastic and not painted. The side mirrors and front and rear bumpers were all separate pieces and permanently attached to the body. The cars were shipped with a removable roof panel. The interior tub, seats, seat backs, dash, shifter, steering wheel and steering column were all separate pieces and not painted. These parts were glued together to form the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windows were inserted underneath the body over 3 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windows in place. The rear license plate was molded into the rear bumper and read "1997". The front license plate read "CORVETTE". The 5 spoke wheels were molded in silver plastic. The blackwall tires had "GOODYEAR" "EAGLE F1" molded into the sidewall. The chassis was molded in black plastic and had a 5 digit code printed in small type. The first 4 digits indicated the Julian date of manufacture (Example: "1347Q" = 134th day of 1997). The chassis was attached to the body with 4 black philips head screws.

Boxes: The 1997 Corvette promos came in black window boxes. These window boxes had the promo wired to a cardboard tray inside. The tray was car specific because it had the AMT-Ertl number printed in the corner. There was a five digit impression on the bottom of the box. The first four digits indicated the Julian date the promo was packaged (Example: "1437Q" = 143rd day of 1997).

Note: There are additional 1997 Corvette promos located in the "Test Shots" section of this website.

Note: AMT-Ertl also made a 1997 Corvette Snap Kit. This kit assembled just like a promo. It's located in the "Snap Kits" section of this website.

Note: Although Revell didn't make any Corvette promos until 1999, they did make a 1997 Corvette Coupe Snap Kit. This kit was very similar to the Corvette Coupe promos issued by Revell in 2000. It's located in the "Snap Kits" section of this website.
