1984

The 1984 Corvette promos were manufactured by MPC (Model Products Corporation). 1984 was the first production year of the "C4" generation. Therefore, the promos were completely different than all the previous years. The bodies were molded as one piece of plastic with a separate hood. The underside of the hood had 4 plastic pins. These plastic pins slid into 4 alignment holes in the main body. The plastic pins were melted to permanently attach the hood to the body. This was done before the cars were painted. The interior tub, seats, dash, shifter and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These parts were glued together to form the interior assembly. The clear plastic windows and interior assembly were inserted into the underside of the body after it was painted. There were 2 different versions of 1984 Corvette promo bodies. The earlier version had a larger "1984" on the rear license plate. These bodies were molded in gray plastic and painted "Bright Silver Metallic". The later version had a smaller "1984" on the rear license plate. These bodies were molded in either tan or red plastic. The tan bodies were painted "Light Bronze Metallic". The red bodies were painted "Bright Red". Only the front grilles and wheels were chrome plated. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The front license plate read "CORVETTE". The wheels resembled 16" polished alloy wheels with center caps (all 1984-1987 Corvette promos had the same style wheel). The blackwall tires had "GOODYEAR" "CUSTOM WIDE TREAD POLYGLAS" molded into the sidewall (all 1975-1988 Corvette promos had the same style tire). The chassis was attached to the body with 4 bright plated straight head screws with spiral threads.

Boxes: The 1984 Corvette promos came in plain white boxes. The early (Silver) cars came in boxes stamped with "1984" "Corvette". The late cars came in boxes stamped with "1984" "CORVETTE" and the body color ("RED" or "BRONZE").

Note: The factory paint on 1984 Corvette promos was very dull.
