1992

The 1992 Corvette promos were manufactured by AMT-Ertl. There were both convertibles and ZR-1 coupes made in 1992. There weren't any notable changes to the convertible bodies from 1991 to 1992. The only change to the ZR-1 coupe bodies was the addition of "ZR-1" emblems on both sides of the hood. Both body styles were molded as one piece of plastic with a separate hood. The underside of the hood had 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins slid into 2 alignment holes in the main body. The plastic pins were melted to permanently attach the hood to the body. The ZR-1 coupe bodies were molded in either yellow or black plastic and clear coated. The convertible bodies were molded in black rose metallic, red or white plastic. Only the white convertibles were not clear coated. There were two different versions of 1992 white convertible promo bodies. One version had a rear license plate with 2 boat sails and a Corvette emblem. These cars were made to commemorate the victory of the "America3" yacht. The other version had a rear license plate that read "1MM". These promos were made to commemorate the 1 millionth Corvette produced and came with a convertible top in the up position. This convertible top was a separate piece of black plastic and was glued to the body. The red convertibles had a rear license plate that read "SPECIAL EDITION". The Black Rose Metallic convertible and both ZR-1 coupes had a "1992" rear license plate. There were no interior changes from 1991 to 1992. The ZR-1 coupes had "sport seats" while the convertibles had standard seats. The interior tub, seats, dash, shifter and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not clear coated. These parts were glued together to form the interior assembly. The clear plastic windows and interior assembly were inserted into the underside of the body. Only the front grilles were chrome plated. The side marker lights were black plastic. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The front license plate read "CORVETTE". The wheels were the same style as 1991 but had a dull silver finish. The convertibles had blackwall tires with "GOODYEAR" "EAGLE ZR40" and the directional rotation molded into the sidewall (all 1989-1992 Corvette convertible promos had the same style tire). The ZR-1 coupes had wider rear tires with "GOODYEAR" "EAGLE ZR35" and the directional rotation molded into the sidewall (the front tires were ZR40s like the convertibles). The convertible chassis had a few changes from 1991 to 1992 including: the exhaust head pipes were redesigned, the 4 round exhaust outlets were changed to two rectangular outlets and "LICENSED BY GM-CORP" was added in small letters. The ZR-1 coupe chassis had a similar change to the exhaust outlets and "LICENSED BY GM-CORP" was added. Either chassis was attached to the body with 4 plated philips head screws.

Boxes: The 1992 Corvette promos came in white corrugated boxes with AMT-ERTL printed on 2 sides and instructions printed on one side. The boxes had a white label attached to the end. The label indicated the Ertl #, year, model and color. The boxes had a 4 digit number stamped on the side. This was the Julian date of manufacture (Example: "0512" = 51st day of 1992).

Note: The interiors of C4 Corvette promos are very easy to interchange. This website shows all the factory interior/exterior combinations for 1984-1996 Corvette Promos. Any combination not shown on this website was altered after it left the factory.
