1987

The 1987 Corvette promos were manufactured by Ertl (Ertl had purchased MPC in 1985). After 16 years without Corvette convertible promos, they returned. All regular production 1987 Corvette promos were red convertibles. Other than the roof, the other notable body change from 1986 to 1987 was the addition of side view mirrors. The bodies were molded as one piece of plastic with a separate hood. The underside of the hood had 4 plastic pins. These plastic pins slid into 4 alignment holes in the main body. The plastic pins were melted to permanently attach the hood to the body. The bodies were molded in red plastic and not painted. There were two different versions of 1987 Corvette promo bodies. One version had "1987" on the rear license plate. The other version had a blank rear license plate. The only notable interior change from 1986 to 1987 was to the cargo area of interior tub. The interior tub, seats, dash, shifter and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These parts were glued together to form the interior assembly. The clear plastic windshield and interior assembly were inserted into the underside of the body. Only the front grilles and wheels were chrome plated. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The front license plate read "CORVETTE". The wheels resembled 16" polished alloy wheels with center caps (all 1984-1987 Corvette promos had the same style wheel). The blackwall tires had "GOODYEAR" "CUSTOM WIDE TREAD POLYGLAS" molded into the sidewall (all 1975-1988 Corvette promos had the same style tire). The chassis was similar to the 1984-1986s. The notable change was the addition of an X shaped crossmember. The chassis was attached to the body with 4 bright plated philips head screws.

Boxes: The 1987 Corvette promos came in plain white boxes. The boxes had a small adhesive label attached to the end. The labels were white and read "6274EO" "1987 CORVETTE". The boxes also had a 4 digit number stamped on the side. This was the Julian date of manufacture (Example: "2726" = 272nd day of 1986).
