1968

Original 1968 Corvette promos were manufactured by MPC (Model Products Corporation). 1968 was the first year of what became known as the "C3" generation. Therefore, the promos were completely different than all the previous years. The 1968 Corvette promos were only made in Convertibles. The bodies were molded as one piece of plastic with a separate front valance and were unique to 1968. These bodies were molded in either red or yellow plastic and were not painted. The interior tub, seats, dash and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These interior parts were glued together to make the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windshield were inserted underneath the body over 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windshield in place. The promos had chrome rear bumpers, front bumper/grille, wheels, rear license plate, tail light bezels and exhaust tips. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The front and rear license plates both read "1968". The wheels resembled rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. This was the only year that Corvette promos came with redline tires. There were 2 different styles of redline tires. The difference was on the sidewall where it met the tread. One style had a wider pattern that appeared like notches. The other style had a much finer pattern that appeared like ridges. The chassis was attached to the body with 3 bright plated straight head screws with spiral threads.

Boxes: The 1968 Corvette promos were packaged in plain white boxes. The end of the box was stamped with "CORVETTE" and the body color.
