1971

Original 1971 Corvette promos were manufactured by MPC (Model Products Corporation). This was a change from the previous 2 years (AMT made the 1969-1970s). Therefore, the promos were significantly different (although they appeared very similar). All of the 1971 Corvette promos were red coupes. The bodies were molded as one piece of red plastic with a separate front valance and were not painted. The interior tub, seats, dash and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These interior parts were glued together to make the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windows were inserted underneath the body over 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windows in place. The promos had chrome rear bumpers, front bumper/grille and wheels. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The rear license plate was molded into the body and it read "USA 1" in large type. The front license plate was part of the chrome front bumper/grille and it read "USA-1" in large type. The wheels resembled rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. The blackwall tires had "GOODYEAR" "F60-15" "POLYGLAS GT" "BELTED" molded into the sidewall (all 1971-1974 Corvette promos had the same style tire). The chassis was like the 1968s and was attached to the body with 3 bright plated straight head screws with spiral threads.

Boxes: The 1971 Corvette promos came in white boxes with orange artwork. The end of the box should be stamped with "CORVETTE" and "MILLE MIGLIA".
