1975Original 1975 Corvette promos were manufactured by MPC (Model Products Corporation). All of the 1975 Corvette promos were coupes. The notable body changes from 1974 to 1975 include: the "454" emblems were removed from the hood, bumper guards were added to the front and rear bumpers, the round emblem on the nose was redesigned, a "crossed flags" emblem was added to the fuel door and the center section of the front grille was replaced with a license plate. The bodies were molded as one piece of gray or orange plastic with a separate front bumper. None of the orange bodies were painted. All of the gray bodies were painted "Silver Metallic". There were no interior changes from 1974 to 1975. The interior tub, seats, dash and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These interior parts and a chrome shifter were glued together to make the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windows were inserted underneath the body over 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windows in place. They had chrome front grilles, shifter and wheels. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The rear license plate was molded into the body and it read "1975". The front license plate was molded into the front bumper and it also read "1975". The wheels resembled rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. The blackwall tires had "GOODYEAR" "CUSTOM WIDE TREAD POLYGLAS" molded into the sidewall (all 1975-1988 Corvette promos had the same style tire). The chassis was similar to the 1973-1974s. The notable difference was the exhaust system was redesigned to incorporate a catalytic converter. The chassis was attached to the body with 4 bright plated straight head screws with spiral threads. Boxes: The 1975 Corvette promos came in plain white boxes. The end of the box was stamped with "75 CORVETTE" and the body color. Some of the "Orange Flame" cars came in boxes with a white printed label covering the incorrect "Flame Red" stamp. Note: Some 1975 Corvette promos have been found with a "T-Handle" shifter (instead of a straight shifter). We believe these cars are correct.
Note: There's an additional 1975 Corvette promo located in the "Test Shots" section of this website. |
