1976Original 1976 Corvette promos were manufactured by MPC (Model Products Corporation). The only notable body change from 1975 to 1976 was the "CORVETTE" letters on the rear bumper were reduced in size. The bodies were molded as one piece of plastic with a separate front bumper. These bodies were supposed to be molded in either white or burgundy plastic. However, some cars were accidentally molded in a cream colored plastic. None of the white or cream colored bodies were painted. All of the burgundy bodies were painted "Mahogany Metallic". The steering wheel was a new 4 spoke design. The other interior parts were unchanged from the 1975 to 1976. The interior tub, seats, dash and steering wheel were all separate pieces and not painted. These interior parts and a chrome shifter were glued together to make the interior assembly. The interior assembly and clear plastic windows were inserted underneath the body over 2 plastic pins. These plastic pins were then melted to hold the interior and windows in place. They had chrome front grilles, shifter and wheels. The tail lights were translucent red plastic. The rear license plate was molded into the body and it read "1976". The front license plate was molded into the front bumper and it also read "1976". The wheels resembled rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. The blackwall tires had "GOODYEAR" "CUSTOM WIDE TREAD POLYGLAS" molded into the sidewall (all 1975-1988 Corvette promos had the same style tire). The chassis was like the 1975s and attached to the body with 4 bright plated straight head screws with spiral threads. Boxes: The 1976 Corvette promos came in plain white boxes. The end of the box was stamped with "76 CORVETTE" and the body color. Note: There are various shades of "Classic White" in addition to the Cream color. Also, these white cars have tendency to discolor if exposed to sunlight. The best way to check for discoloration is by carefully removing the chassis.
